Hours of Footage Become a Story

Four years ago, we filmed the first scenes of what is becoming THE LAST WITCH. Now, I’m reliving those moments and reflecting on the bigger story that is at the heart of the film.

I’m mindful of the challenges that are facing the world of education and how major decisions that are made today regarding policy, resources, and funding will impact us all for generations to come.

Elizabeth Johnson Jr was finally freed from her conviction as a “detestable witch” 330 years after the infamous Salem Witch Trials.

Elizabeth (EJJ to the students) was freed because Massachusetts passed a policy mandating civics education for 8th graders and a project that lets 8th graders apply their knowledge to real life situations.

The students had resources available to them through online access to original court documents, books, and interviews with real living, breathing people.

All of that was made available to them at North Andover Middle School through funding available to the Massachusetts public school system.

That is the story that is at the heart of THE LAST WITCH.

We are now preparing for our final round of filming in Massachusetts this November.

Stay with us. The story of THE LAST WITCH is getting more powerful!
